The arrival of summer signals the return of great bike rides! But before hitting the roads and trails, it's essential to check the condition of your bike. A quick inspection can prevent unpleasant surprises and ensure your safety. Here are 5 crucial points to examine before your first summer ride. 1. Tires: Check the pressure and general condition Tire pressure - Check the recommended pressure : It is usually indicated on the sidewall of the tire. - Use a pressure gauge : Don't rely solely on the "thumb test" - Adjust according to the terrain : Road (high pressure) vs trail (lower pressure) - Recharge if necessary : Tires naturally lose air over time The condition of the tires - Inspect the sides Look for cracks or tears - Check the tread : Make sure it is not too worn. - Check the valves : They must be tight and in good condition - Replace if doubtful Prevention is better than cure. 2. Brakes: Safety first V-brakes - Check the wear on the brake pads : They must have enough rubber left. - Test the cable tension : The brakes should respond immediately - Adjust if necessary : Cables may loosen over time - Clean the rims : Remove grease and dirt Disc brakes...
The Highway Safety Code requires cyclists who ride electric bicycles to wear a bicycle helmet. * Warning! Some municipalities, like Sherbrooke, require helmets for people under 18 years old. Please check with your municipality. However, just because it's not mandatory doesn't mean it's not necessary. Here are some of the most interesting models we've selected for you: The Align helmet has been our best seller for hybrid and electric bikes for many years. Certified protection, sleek aesthetics, a comfortable fit, and an affordable price: that's what makes the Align II. What we prefer above all? It is available in 3 sizes and over 10 colors. Multi-Directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) 3 distinct sizes for a better fit The Align II helmet received the highest rating from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute A 4th Dimension Cooling System optimizes airflow. Reflective elements improve visibility in low-light conditions. Are you a mountain bike enthusiast? Our favorite helmet for several years has been the Leatt Enduro 2.0. With 360 ̊ Turbine technology and a removable chin bar with a push button, it's a versatile and safe helmet. For the little ones, our favorite bike helmet is undoubtedly the Bell Lil Ripper. Your child can pedal with confidence and style, and in...
A well-maintained drivetrain is key to a successful ride. Beyond improved noise reduction, proper lubrication reduces friction, facilitates gear changes, and extends the life of your components. Here's how to navigate the options to keep your bike in excellent condition. Choose the right lubricant for your environment The choice of product depends on the weather conditions encountered during your journeys. Dry condition lubricant: Often composed of wax or Teflon, it is designed not to attract dust and sand. It keeps the chain clean, but requires more frequent application. Wet lubricant: More viscous and water-resistant, it stays in place despite rain or mud. It effectively protects against corrosion, but requires more thorough chain cleaning as it accumulates more dirt. Ceramic options: For those seeking enhanced performance, these formulas create a protective coating that minimizes premature wear of the links. The method for a professional application Applying oil requires a certain degree of precision to avoid unnecessary fouling of your bicycle. Surface preparation: Clean your chain with an effective degreaser. A residue-free surface allows the new lubricant to penetrate deep into the rollers. Targeted application: Place a drop on each link while turning the pedals. Focus on the inner part of the...
Owning a Specialized Turbo electric bike means having access to cutting-edge technology that adapts to your riding style. Thanks to the Specialized app, your phone becomes the control center for your bike, allowing you to modify the motor's behavior with surgical precision. 1. The initial connection To get started, download the app and create your profile. The connection is made via Bluetooth. Once the bike is paired, you'll have access to a comprehensive dashboard displaying battery status, mileage, and system diagnostics. Registering your bike through the app also enables over-the-air updates so your motor always benefits from the latest performance improvements. 2. The Art of Tuning: Support and Peak Power This is where the magic happens. For each assistance mode ( Eco, Trail, Turbo ), you can adjust two fundamental parameters: The Support (Assistance) setting: This slider determines the level of assistance the motor provides relative to your own pedaling effort. A lower support level promotes greater range and physical exercise. Peak Power: This setting limits the raw power the motor can deliver. Reducing peak power in Eco mode, for example, helps to significantly conserve battery power on long, flat journeys on the South Shore. 3. Advanced adjustments for natural...
By : Sarah-Émilie Boivin I decided to share with you in more detail my adventure of the Bromont Ultra 2022. I believe it is a great lesson in humility but above all in perseverance. So, race day, October 8, 2022, 8:00 AM, is the start of my 120km Ultra (3 loops of 40km), with 4500m of elevation gain on the menu. Based on my 80km time last year and my training times, I think I can finish before 10:00 PM (so 14 hours of cycling). I've estimated an average speed of 9-10km/h plus the time spent at aid stations. I was really undecided a few minutes before the start: coat or no coat? I opted for no coat when I noticed that most people were only wearing long-sleeved shirts. That would be a big mistake. Jessee, who would be starting her BU55 a little later, cheered me on at the start; I was so glad to see her. The start was slow, and that's normal. It was cold... it was snowing! At kilometer 20, my bike's gears were really bad. I called Patrice in a panic; he came to meet me at the aid station at kilometer 30. I realized...
